Solid Summer Fishing in Rice Lake
Crappie, bluegill, walleye, bass and
musky all biting well
June 30, 2009—(Rice Lake, WI)—Fishing heated up in Rice Lake this past
week as air and water temperatures were on the rise, stirring fish into
strong feeding patterns.
Bluegills were biting well, with spawning pretty much over. Crappies
were being taken in good numbers too. Panfish anglers enjoyed very
consistent action and good sized fish.
Walleye were being taken as well. The top technique has been slow
trolling nightcrawlers on worm harnesses. The long, narrow lakes of the
Rice Lake area provide the perfect setting for trolling.
Musky fishing has been good as well. Fish have been hitting top-water
baits with some enthusiasm. Remember to carefully handle any musky you
catch and release them quickly back to the water. Prolonged time out of
the water and rough handling greatly reduces a released fish’s chances
of survival.
Good weed growth and warm water temperatures have been wonderful for
bass fishing. Bass anglers have enjoyed some great fishing. Bass action
should continue to be very good.
If it sounds like it’s a good time to be out fishing in Rice Lake, it
is. Grab your fishing rod and get out and enjoy summer fishing at its best.
